In News, SFU Entrepreneur of the Year

Over the past five years, SFU Entrepreneur of the Year (SEY) has grown from an idea into a full program that recognizes students with start-ups and businesses from the Simon Fraser University community.  The competition has awarded over $20,000 in funding and resources to title winners such as Milun Tesovic (Metrolyrics) and Matias Marquez (Buyatab Online, Inc).

This year, SEY introduces a new component that encourages students to pursue their entrepreneurial passions and curiousity by launching their ideas into businesses:

JumpStart is an eight-week accelerator that aims to take 5 ventures teams with an idea to a start-up business phase.  Beginning September 15th, 2012, weekly meet-ups will equip the teams with knowledge, experience, practice and feedback through the use of external speakers, mentors, challenges, funding, and tasks.  The overall goal is to provide a supportive and resourceful environment for businesses to launch.  On November 17, 2012, teams will present their progress during the JumpStart Demo Day to judges and potential investors for funding.

Apply for JumpStart: www.sfusey.com/applyjumpstart.  Deadline is August 26, 2012 at 11:59pm.
